300 panels off, faults found, rewired — and back on the roof.

An older system on two farm roofs kept tripping on an insulation fault. We tested every string, took the panels off, found the faulty panels, replaced all the DC cables and plugs, and put it all back — working.

How we fixed it

Test, take off, rewire, put back, prove

A fault you can’t see needs a method — not guesswork.

01Test

Insulation (RISO) tests on every string showed which strings were leaking to earth.

02Take off

Panels lifted off the old roof from boards, numbered, stacked safely and tested one by one to find the faulty ones.

03Rewire

All DC cables and MC4 plugs replaced — hundreds of pairs — and new clamps where the old ones were gone.

04Put back

Panels refitted string by string from our own drawing, faulty panels left off.

05Prove

RISO tests repeated — around 40–50 MΩ, in line with the panel datasheets — and the inverters back online.
